Offering one to one counselling in Worle, Weston-Super-Mare and North Somerset
Worle Oak Counselling provides face-to-face and online counselling services for children from 10 years of age through to adults. As a counsellor I am dedicated to helping young people and adults navigate life's challenges with empathy and expertise.
Hello, my name is Alison and I am a qualified pluralistic counsellor. A pluralistic approach recognises the differences and diversity of each individual and I strive to offer a non-judgmental and friendly approach. Where together we can identify what would help you feel comfortable and at ease during our sessions. Building a space where you feel safe and secureis important when working together and the free 15-minute introductory session is a good opportunity to understand what life is like for you. It also gives you an opportunity to see if we would be a good fit and would work well together.
The first session is an assessment which allows an open discussion to find out what you would like to achieve during our time together. What is important to you and what you would like to be different by the time counselling has ended? Exploring your life experiences as well as the here and now, what is working well for you as well as identifying what has helped you in the past. Once this information has been gathered, we can then discuss the ways in which we can work together to decide the best way of moving forward to your chosen outcomes or goals. I also use the following approaches alongside the pluralistic approach, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, compassion focused therapy and solution focused.
All sessions are 50 minutes long and I offer both short term and long-term work. I will regularly check-in with you to review our work together and to see how you are experiencing sessions. Together we can then make any adjustments to the work we are doing to ensure that you are meeting your desired outcomes. All session are based in a counselling room in Worle, North Somerset. I also offer online counselling for people who may not be able to attend in person, or for those who do not live locally.
All our work is confidential except in certain situations where any information you share means that there is a potential risk of harm to yourself or to someone else. This will be discussed in our first session and as part of the counselling contract.
I enjoy working with children from 10 years, and across the age ranges through to older adults. I enjoy working creatively and encourage you to bring music, poetry, creative writing or anything that will help you to explore your reasons for coming to counselling. I always have creative tools in the counselling room such as stress balls to paper and pens, playdough, sand tray, mood cards and buttons. I also enjoy using guided imagery for those clients that feel this would be beneficial and use grounding and breathing techniques alongside this.
I have regular supervision whereby I discuss the cases that I am working with, this ensures I am working to the ethical framework of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). It also allows me to regularly reflect on my continued professional development. Supervision does not share any information whereby you could be identified by the supervisor.
I am a registered member with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
